Winter Getaway

The dilemma: It’s the dead of Winter and lucky you (and I) have decided to get away from it all, including the freezing cold and hit some tropical destination for a week or two, or maybe four!! Where the heck are you going to find summer clothes in the winter??? Don’t fret ladies; I’m facing the same issue right now. I’m one of the lucky few who get to take an extended winter vacation below the equator, as excited as I am the shopping dilemma lurks its ugly head. If you’re like me, the cute summer dress from last summer just aren’t enough. Though it’s tough, you can do it ladies, start with your discount stores, ROSS, TJMaxx, Marshalls… they will have off-season clothing at a significantly reduced price. Next try your larger discount department stores, KOHLS and Target. After you try these discount retailers, next try your larger department stores, and make sure to keep your eye out for the clearance racks… that’s where you will find those little gems that will keep you in SassicStyle for your vacation… enjoy!

Light Up Your Life!

Shimmer, glitter, sequence and shine…I am all about it this season ladies, actually, I’m a little obsessed. But why should the only glittery thing be the Christmas tree? This season let your self shine, and not just a little – A LOT! You’ve heard me talk about glitter and shimmer in the “Closet Check-up” and in “Feeling Rosy” Here are some shimmery pieces the sassy fashionsita can use to spice up the wardrobe.

Thanks for the Compliment!

Someone recently described my style as “disheveled sophisticated elegance,” well if that ain’t the truth. She told me I remind her of Zoe Kravitz (whom I just love), “something is always a little off or messy about your look, but sometimes you’re so pulled together,” I, sassy fashionista’s take that as a compliment!! Though I love being pulled together and looking great, a big part of my sassiness, is that never try-to-hard look. I maybe wearing the most tailored blazer and structured skirt, but rest assured one of my boots is always more slouched than the other, or my scarf is hanging almost to the ground. This is just my style, I wear the pieces I love, mixed and matched and I let them fall where they fall. I can’t really label this style, but I will give a big nod to my fashion free spirit sisters out there like Zoe Kravitz, who dare to go out looking just almost perfect!  Lets keep on keeping it sassy ladies…

West Coast Free

On a recent trip to LA I noticed how comfortable our sassy fashionista sisters on the West Coast really are. Up until a few years ago, maybe six or seven, LA was known for not really having much style of its own and for being notoriously behind the trends that New York eats up and spits out before LA even has time to wake up… that reputation has been put to rest in recent history. We’ve seen many trendsetters coming out of LA recently, i.e. our favorite crew of sisters whose names all begin with a K. Besides that old Hollywood glamor, there wasn’t much of a fashion contribution from the West side… or have we been sleepin on the Cali girls? I personally loved what I saw out there, it wasn’t that pretentious New York vibe of snooty high fashion, it was laid back and relaxed, comfortable and calm, the kind of comfort and calm that makes you feel totally ok with wearing Chuck Taylor's, boyfriend jeans and a tee-shirt – Anywhere! No visitor to LA should feel the fashion intimidation of NYC, feel free to wear flip flips (in the summer of course), a hat, anything goes – it is a lovely freeing feeling. Of course when the sun goes down, the glamor turns up, but its still a comfortable cool that is so chic and all LA. Here’s to you sunny California!

Closet Check-Up

Tis’ the Season… for a closet check-up! The sassy fashionista should always keep current with the happenings of her closet; after all it is your lifeline. Alas, even the best of us get tide up with our busy schedules and forget to do that all important closet check-up to make sure we have the necessities and get rid of the items that haven’t served us well for whatever reason or that we simply don’t need. We all know about the tried and true wardrobe basics, the little black dress, the versatile trench, the black blazer, everyday flats and the classic button up shirt. These staples we can’t live without have been important to the all the best sassy fashionista's in history, but this season lets try to add a little pop to those classics!  Take that little black dress to new lengths, give it a dynamic collar or pair it with sexy red fishnets and knee high boots. Add some color or sparkle to a blazer. Give that classic ballet flat a season off and purchase a  pair of sparkly brogues instead. Ruffle your classic button up. Deck your closets ladies...Tis' the Season! Here are some pieces that will stay with you and make the world take notice of that Sassic winter wardrobe.

Vintage Vixen

So you’ve seen those sassy fashionistas out there in the world who dare to rock vintage pieces, or even a whole ensemble, and you may be thinking to yourself, “wow, how can I pull off that look?” It’s much easier than you may think to pull together the perfect vintage look. I know that Thrift/Vintage stores can be a lot to take in. Clothes everywhere, the musky smell of your grandmother’s closet, and everything looks – well, old. Here are a few tips to get you started…

First of all you MUST look! Go through the racks, and I mean all of them. The only way to find those gems that will give you the perfect vintage look is to hunt.

As you go through the racks look for QUALITY pieces, something that is still in great condition. The sassy fashionista knows to ALWAYS choose fabrics wisely, even when it comes to the throwbacks.

Don’t be afraid of buying larger sizes. If you see something that looks like a moo moo or like it may not fit, remember that you can have it tailored or altered – and for the price you’ll be paying for the garment, its still a steal.

Dare to step out of your box – Its silly to take the time to go and look for something vintage if you won’t dare to be unique.

Don’t buy too much at once. It’s been my experience that searching, narrowing my options down to just a few pieces is better than buying in bulk. Buying too many pieces can confuse your vision for that perfect look…make sure you have that vision before you buy.

Lastly...Be BOLD! Rhinestones, glitter, all over prints and patterns, outrageous hats, large pieces of AMAZING Jewelry…that’s what is all about

Happy Hunting Loves!

Outlook on Outerwear

Ok ladies, believe it or not winter is upon us and it’s only just begun. If you don’t believe it, you can step outside and feel it, just don’t step out without winter’s most important fashion staple… the perfect winter coat. Coat styles have come and gone, but the sassy fashionista knows that there are a few styles that will remain or become staples. A great, stylish coat is always worth the cost not only will it keep you warm but it will also transcend time and passing fashion trends if you choose wisely. While remembering to stay classic with your choice in cut, don’t be afraid to invest in a little color or an interesting collar or fabric. The color will give your look and sprit a little pop during the cold months and an interesting collar will grab attention and make your coat choice more dynamic. Texture like fur or faux fur is always an elegant look as is any vintage choice as it has clearly stood the test of many winters past! Happy hunting sassy fashionista, wishing you warm!
